Arachne
Wearable multi-mode web deployment system
No real material is sticky, strong, stretchy and retractable at once.
So I stopped trying to find one.
Glue does the looking. A hidden line does the pulling. A pin-release coupling lets the line walk away afterward, leaving only glue behind. Six jobs, six mechanisms, disguised as one object.

Four modes
- 01
Web
Long convincing strands, about two metres. Pure visual effect.
- 02
Blob
Thick splat with maximum contact area. Webs an object shut.
- 03
Pull
A dart embeds in the splat and the reel drags it back. Soda cans, not people.
- 04
Retrieve
The line lets go while slack, so no force ever reaches the bond. The web stays; the line vanishes.
